When & Where is Camp? Camp for 2010 will be from Monday 26th July to Friday 6th August at Merevale Farm, Hanley Castle, Great Malvern, Worcestershire, WR8 0AA. Note that if you are using this post code for directions then it will take you to the farm and the field is about 1 mile north east of the farm.
What is Camp? Around 100 people gather together each year at Camp to explore Quaker Worship. We create a Quaker community, aiming to live simply and taking decisions together. Everyone contributes to the community's worship and work. Who can apply? We welcome individuals and families willing to take part in the community. Children not yet 14 by the time of camp need to come with an adult who will assume responsibility for them for the duration of camp, preferably a parent, with whom they can share a tent. 11 - 15 year olds are allocated to tent groups of the same sex and similar ages. All adults carry responsibility for the community and in particular, for the safety of the children. How many can come? We only have room for 100 people. Priority goes to Luton & Leighton Friends, then to other Quakers and then to those whom camp committee feel will enhance the community. What do we actually do at Camp? When we're at camp we balance work, enjoying each other's company, relaxation and worship to feed body, mind and spirit. We worship together in the morning and evening, often in silence, but sometimes including creative activities suitable for all ages. Worship is an integral part of building camp community. We work in teams to prepare meals, provide fuel and keep camp clean. We all contribute to organising and participating in activities: these might be artistic, musical, sporty, group discussions, environment-related - anything you can think of. We generally have a fancy dress party and camp fires happen when the weather allows it. Please bring your talents, experiences and ideas to share.
